You're Fired!!

Well, now I have a glimpse of what so many of my fellow Americans have experienced of late. I arrived at work, clocked in and good to go, and within the hour, was told that my manager needed to speak to me. I found myself in an office, with the assistant and general manager,  door closed, and some kind of drama building. I hadn't stolen anything, and hadn't offended anyone, yet it turns out they have more people working than they need- and today is my last day! In fact, I just helped my last customer!!
It wasn't that upsetting, okay, it was. but that's the American way. Hire people, make a tiny investment in them by having them trained, and then put them out there and see who makes the grade. I will say that my former employer, Tiffany &  Co., had more rules and regulations than I ever imagined possible- and it was definitely a stretch to conform to every detail of the world according to T. & Co.. I did make some nice sales and helped a lot of interesting customers, and I got to imagine a job where you worked in a mall. It's probably all for the best that my services are no longer needed. But, I don't think I'll ever look at little blue boxes in the same way ever again.
