Busy

It's been busy here. Photographing a few jobs, tending the garden, and moving things along. Sarah is at her camp now and the house is quieter. Miss her- but do enjoy having them busier. Gives me a chance to think about my images. Always fun to have a camera in my hands at certain times of day or when I am alone in the garden. The sea oats in the back and the Queens Anne's lace in the front bed never fail to amaze me as subjects.

The Artist Baker

I just finished looking at the Picasa album that I created about a recent visit to Andrea Lekberg's bakery- in Morristown, NJ. I had lunch that day with all the employees in the courtyard and then wandered around with my camera to make some quick snapshots of the place. I do think her's is a great story and I hope we do a project together! (To see more bakery photos click here)

Another hot day in July

July 16th and trying not to get too hot under the collar about anything... It's been warm and humid and if I can keep my outlook on the up and up it helps everyone to do the same. Funny how mother sets the tone and the requisite pressure to be the role model for the family. Struggling with thoughts of managing the day to day, bills, repairs, meals, goals and desires all braid together. Nora is disappointed with her class ranking and tore up her transcript in disgust. I realize her concern reflects her anxiety over getting the best possible financial aid when she graduates high school as she can get. It amazes me that she has these worries at this age. I had lots of worries too at 16- but not about college. Different times have created a very different social climate. Sarah and Jacob roll along with a lot less future concerns and their general carefree attitude is a pleasure for me. A dip in a baby pool and a crossword puzzle can engage Sarah for an afternoon. Lucky girl!

June 1. Where does the time go? I've been reading various blogs and feeling more and more wary of the confessional, the shopping hint, the understated observations. You know, the endless rhapsodies about light coming through leaves, the warmth of a child's embrace and the beauty of ripe....nectarines....tomatoes.......oh you fill in the blanks. Sometimes content is really hard to come by. Don't I know it.

There is always a lot to do on mondays-especially when all three manage to get to school. Doing the Census work has added another dimension everyday of paperwork and organizing questionnaires and reviewing them. Lots of trips to Rockland County to go to the census office which allows for some interesting detours to Lowe's, the wonderful lumber yard across the street
and the Palisades mall. I feel like my enumerators are doing a good job (all but one) and it's all coming to together. I do like all the different types of people I have met along the way of this project.
Back to today:
Move rocks in the backyard out
Plant vegetables: put out manure?
Do Nora's window box
Jacob dental check-up
Dr. Ossen consult for Sarah & Jacob
Travel arrangements for Sarah for camp
Belt for Jacob's pants/ Wash shirt
LAUNDRY (later with kids?)
To Rockland
(Copper nails for roof)
